To make Google News as interesting and useful to you as possible, we use a range of factors to influence ranking of content on Google News, including:
- Relevance of content
- Prominence
- Authoritativeness
- Freshness
- Usability
- Location and Language
Algorithms may personalize your news for these sections:
- "For you” in Home
- Topics, sources, and locations in Following
- "Picks for you” stories in your briefing
- Your topics
- Local news
- Notifications
Algorithms personalize your news based on certain factors, including your interests, either that you’ve specified or that we inferred from your past activity on Google products and Youtube, depending on your activity settings.

Some publishers could have a contractual agreement with Google to allow licensed use of their article content; this doesn't affect article ranking.
On video-only feeds, results are limited to YouTube-hosted content and the content of licensed publishers.
Advertisements on Google News
Articles included on Google News sometimes serve advertisements, which are labeled as such. The publishers themselves manage these advertisements. Google could receive a portion of the payment from the advertiser.
